  • MAYA MITCHELL

A portrait painter/artist, songwriter + banjo player, I reside in the Pinecraft Amish Village in Sarasota, Florida. I live on a mini-farm with my Himalayan kitten, Pit Bull, and pig named Van Gogh. I hold a Master of Arts from Prescott College. I draw inspiration from my travels to 21 countries, including India, Jamaica, Morocco, and Peru, and the rare, unique muses I encounter.

I have a persistent interest in what we are composed of. As a direct result, I work as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) + Corporate Director for NeuroHealth Solutions. I work with little ones with autism, teaching developmental milestones. As a Behavior Analyst, I have spent the last 14 years studying emotion. Body language, tells, and subtle physicalities are my specialties.

    SHATTERED HUMANITY

    THE ART

I try to capture emotion in a moment. I am fascinated by what others can express with only a glance: bitterness, joy, disgust, devotion. We are all shattered. It is the great secret. Showing honesty in my art is my primary goal. This series aims to reveal.

    MY MISSION

    CAPTURING HUMANITY

I strive to capture the temporary existence of human feelings. I have a persistent interest in what we are comprised of. As a Behavior Analyst, I have spent the last 14+ years studying emotion. Body language, tells, and subtle physicalities are my specialties. I bond with humanity by painting their faces. Helping others to express themselves is my raison d'être.

    INSPIRATION

    HUMAN POSSIBILITY

"To me, paintings create a material form of the abstract, making light and desire concrete. I draw inspiration from the color of a raindrop on your cheek, and covet the intoxicating smell of possibility any given individual holds."
